DJI Brings Two New Flagship Drones to Lineup Featuring Myriad 2 VPUs

In March of this year, DJI broke new ground by being first to market with a visually intelligent consumer drone - the Phantom 4. Movidius was a proud partner in this launch, delivering the vision compute performance DJI required via the Myriad 2 VPU. Today, DJI has raised the bar even higher by introducing two new drones with even greater levels of intelligence. The Inspire 2 and Phantom 4 Pro both raise the bar in their respective categories, bringing new levels of sophistication, safety and autonomy to the drone space.

Inspire 2 is the successor to what has become the industry standard for cinematography drones. Now featuring a sense-and-avoid system, a dedicated FPV pilot camera, and upward-facing proximity sensors, the Inspire 2 makes it easier than ever before to forget about piloting and focus on getting the perfect shot.

In March of this year, the Phantom 4 wowed the drone industry with the first ever consumer-grade sense-and-avoid system, as well as vision based tracking systems and navigation modes. Phantom 4 Pro goes even further, adding vision systems to the rear and sides of the aircraft, providing awareness in 360 degrees.

Thanks to the Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit from Movidius, these machines are able to process incoming data from multiple sensors in real-time, enabling them to construct 3D maps of their surroundings, and even recognize and follow subjects in the main gimbal cameras. Movidius has worked closely with DJI to ensure they achieve maximum performance in their flight autonomy systems without sacrificing weight, performance or battery life.

“Professional filmmakers and photographers always push to create images that have never been seen before, and DJI never stops trying to give them the tools to achieve their vision,” said DJI CEO and Founder Frank Wang. “Our newest flight platforms and stabilized aerial cameras are smarter, faster and more powerful than ever before. We can’t wait to see how creators use Inspire 2 and Phantom 4 Pro to capture dazzling images.”
